The big news for the 1955 Chevrolet was the introduction of the 265 cubic inch V8 engine. The new engine was lighter than the six cylinder and much more powerful, cranking out 162 horsepower with a standard transmission and 170 horsepower when equipped with the PowerGlide automatic. An optional 180 horsepower version tagged "Power-Pak" featured a four-barrel carburetor and dual exhausts. The body styling was longer, lower and boxier. Featured was a wrap-around windshield and a beltline dip below the rear side window. The first hardtop wagon, the Nomad, was introduced in the 1955 Chevrolet lineup.
